Opening tomorrow: Conrad Athens The Ilisian

Athens has seen a surge in luxury hotel openings over the past months and years, but this one stands apart.
Conrad Athens The Ilisian marks the return of one of the city’s most iconic buildings – the former Athens Hilton, which opened in 1963 as Athens’ first international chain hotel. More than a hotel, the original property played a cultural role, hosting the Hilton Gallery, widely regarded as Athens’ first contemporary art gallery.
Now fully redeveloped, the hotel reopens as part of The Ilisian, a broader mixed-use destination, also home to Conrad and Waldorf Astoria Residences, as well as private members club House of NYNN.
The hotel offers 278 rooms and suites – a deliberate reduction from the original inventory, resulting in some of the largest guest rooms in Athens. Many feature private balconies with views across the city, the Acropolis and the sea.
Dining is a key pillar, spanning Byzantino Grande Brasserie with its Greek and French focus, The Athenian Lounge, a poolside restaurant centred on modern Italian dining, and a contemporary Japanese concept.
Wellness is equally central and unusually extensive for an urban property. Alongside indoor and outdoor pools, the hotel features saunas, a cold plunge and a steam room. Fitness facilities include a fully equipped gym, dedicated yoga and Pilates studios, and an immersive cycling studio. A standout feature is the 700-metre rooftop running track, offering panoramic views across Athens, complemented by a pickleball court and an open-air gym.
More than a new opening, Conrad Athens The Ilisian represents the revival of a landmark – and a defining addition to Athens’ evolving luxury landscape.
