Starwood expands: 1 Hotel Tokyo opens, Baccarat plans for Rome and Florence

Starwood Hotels enters a new phase of global expansion. Led by Barry Sternlicht, the company continues to develop its portfolio of sustainable luxury and ultra-luxury brands, with 1 Hotels just debuting in Tokyo and Baccarat Hotels & Residences advancing its international pipeline with projects planned across Europe and the Middle East.
The newest opening is 1 Hotel Tokyo, marking the brand’s debut in Japan. Set high within the Akasaka Trust Tower, the hotel occupies the 38th through 43rd floors and offers sweeping views of the Imperial Palace gardens, Tokyo Tower and the surrounding skyline. Conceived as a nature-infused urban sanctuary, the retreat integrates sustainable materials, curated greenery and tactile crafted details throughout the property. The interiors were developed by global architecture and design studio CRÈME, reflecting the brand’s signature approach of bringing natural elements into dense urban environments.
The hotel features 211 rooms, including 24 suites, and three dining venues: NiNi, Spotted Stone and Neighbors Café. The Bamford Wellness Spa is a restorative sanctuary created in partnership with Carole Bamford, a pioneer in organic, sustainable and holistic living.
1 Hotels continues to expand its international footprint with properties under development in Cabo San Lucas, Paris, Elounda Hills in Crete, Austin in Texas, Riyadh in Saudi Arabia, San Miguel de Allende in Mexico and the Hudson Valley in New York.
Meanwhile, Baccarat Hotels & Residences is preparing for its Italian debut. Rome could see the opening of the brand’s first property in Italy as early as this year, while a second Baccarat hotel is planned for Florence. Additional projects are also in development in Dubai, the Maldives and Diriyah in Saudi Arabia.
