Belmond Villa San Michele returns after renovation

Perched in the hills of Fiesole above Florence, Belmond Villa San Michele has reopened following an 18-month renovation.
Housed within a former 15th-century monastery, the property now presents 27 newly designed suites and 12 rooms by Luigi Fragola Architects. Interiors balance heritage and craftsmanship, from scagliola furnishings by Bianco Bianchi to bespoke textiles by artist Elena Carozzi.
Culinary experiences take a new direction with Antesi, led by Alessandro Cozzolino, while the restored Bar Doccia – set between the cloister and gardens – offers an elegant setting for aperitivo or a late digestif.
Wellbeing is now anchored by the Villa San Michele Spa by Guerlain, discreetly located within the historic convent.
Within the estate, the gardens have been revitalised across more than 10.000 square metres by Luca Ghezzi Garden Design. Terraced landscapes unfold into quiet corners, restored fountains and panoramic viewpoints, with citrus trees, lavender and rosemary shaping a classic Fiesolan hillside setting. New additions include an expanded herb garden for the kitchen, an iris garden paying tribute to Florence, and a 42-metre rose path designed for contemplative walks above the city.
