Now open: Casa Bonavita in Malta

Malta’s luxury hospitality scene has welcomed one of its most exciting new arrivals with the opening of Casa Bonavita in Attard.

The 17-bedroom hotel is the deeply personal project of Suzanne and Christopher Sharp, founders of The Rug Company, who have transformed an 18th-century palazzo into an intimate Mediterranean retreat shaped by craftsmanship, heritage and a strong sense of place.

Set in one of Malta’s quieter historic villages, Casa Bonavita offers a more residential vision of luxury. Original architecture, antique furniture, frescoed rooms, hand-painted tiles and carefully chosen artworks create the atmosphere of a private house rather than a conventional hotel.

At the heart of the property lies the restaurant, dedicated to a contemporary take on Mediterranean cuisine. Casa Bonavita’s kitchen is led by Executive Chef Dex Oseman, with seasonal, locally sourced ingredients prepared with clarity and restraint, celebrating the generosity of the island’s produce in an elegant setting. The dining room is one of the hotel’s highlights, with frescoes that draw the beauty of the garden into the house.

The bar adds another striking design moment, with hand-painted de Gournay wallpaper depicting Valletta harbour in the 18th century. Wellness is also part of the experience, with a spa, sauna, cold plunge and treatment rooms offering space to rest and restore.

With its sense of intimacy, design pedigree and deep connection to Maltese heritage, Casa Bonavita feels like one of the island’s most significant luxury openings in years – and probably one of the most exciting additions to Malta’s luxury hotel scene since Iniala Harbour House.
