Alila Mayakoba signals the brand’s Caribbean debut as anticipation grows around future openings

Alila has expanded into the Caribbean and Latin America with the opening of Alila Mayakoba, the brand’s first resort in both regions, located in the heart of Mexico’s Riviera Maya on the Yucatán Peninsula.

Set across 60 acres of beachfront, lagoons, and tropical jungle along Mexico’s Caribbean coast, the resort features 182 rooms, suites, and villas, nearly 40 percent of which are suites, including a beachfront Presidential Suite. Interiors by Huber Design blend locally sourced materials from the Yucatán Peninsula – including tzalam and parota hardwoods, Mérida limestone, and recuperated travertine – with contemporary architecture inspired by the surrounding natural landscape.
The culinary offering includes six dining concepts: Alisio Beach Club, Casa Amate, El Huerto/Chef’s Atelier, Xiim Bar, Na’um Cocina Local, and Ninguno Taqueria, ranging from elevated Mexican cuisine to casual beachfront dining experiences. Casa Amate, one of Mayakoba’s best-known restaurants, has also been retained as part of the transition from the former Andaz Mayakoba.
Additional facilities include Spa Alila and a Technogym-powered fitness centre, alongside wellness-focused experiences inspired by local traditions, including temazcal rituals, sound healing, cacao ceremonies, and experiences guided by Mayan elders and the sacred Tzolk’in calendar.
Fittingly, “Alila” translates to “surprise” in Sanskrit – and with the brand now making its Caribbean debut while still having no presence in Europe, travellers and industry insiders alike will be watching closely to see where Alila may surprise next.
