Helsinki has welcomed a new name to the global luxury hospitality map as The Hotel Maria has rebranded to Waldorf Astoria Helsinki, marking the debut of the Waldorf Astoria brand in the Nordic region.
Located in the historic Kruununhaka district on Mariankatu, the property occupies a collection of four 19th- and early 20th-century buildings, the oldest of which dates back to 1885 and was originally designed by Finnish architect Evert Lagerspetz. After an extensive transformation, the 116-key property — notable for its high proportion of suites — opened in December 2023 as The Hotel Maria.
The rebranding under Waldorf Astoria was first announced during summer 2025 and has now been fully completed. The hotel’s new identity is visible across all platforms, including the transition of its Instagram account and full integration into Hilton’s global booking system.
There are currently 43 Waldorf Astoria hotels worldwide, including five in Europe. The brand is continuing its international expansion, with new Waldorf Astoria openings scheduled for 2026 in Minsk, Belarus, and Rabat, Morocco.
