A new era of luxury hospitality for Papua New Guinea: InterContinental Port Moresby set for 2028

IHG Hotels & Resorts is set to launch the InterContinental brand in Papua New Guinea with the opening of InterContinental Port Moresby in late 2028. Announced in partnership with Gulf Province Properties Limited, the 179-room property will anchor a mixed-use development in the capital’s diplomatic precinct.
The hotel will be located close to the National Parliament House, the Supreme and National Court, key central government agencies and several foreign embassies, positioning it to serve dignitaries, corporate travellers and international guests. Plans include several dining venues, a Club Lounge, outdoor pool, fitness centre and more than 600 square metres of meeting and event space.
It will be the first InterContinental in Papua New Guinea and will add to IHG’s existing footprint in Port Moresby. The project signals a new era for luxury hospitality in Papua New Guinea. While the country has several upscale hotels in the capital, major international luxury brands have so far had only a limited presence in the market. The arrival of the InterContinental brand therefore marks an important step in the evolution of Papua New Guinea’s high-end hospitality sector.
